Environmental Stance of the Day:
So, let's just say,you were doing a study on dolphin populations in the Atlantic Ocean, because, of course, like all creatures great and small, they do play an important role in the ecosystem. So, if you were worried about declining numbers of dolphins, and wanted to know how many there were, would you include the captive-bred dolphins residing in, oh, the New York Aquarium, or 6 Flags, or Disney? I dunno, seems to me that those ones don't really count in a population count: the genetic variations are limited to known breeders, they don't behave quite like wild ones, etc.
So now say you're trying to study the number of salmon in the Pacific, because, let's face it, there aren't as many as there used to be. I'm no vegetarian, I like sushi as much as the next guy, but we all know we're overfishing, destroying river runs, etc. And now the current Administration is saying we should count farm-bred salmon as part of the population?? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4856765/
Hmm, you think Bush has friends in the timber and energy industries? Crazy...
If the Jan Hasselman quoted in the article is the Jan Hasselman I think it is, hey man, keep fighting the good fight. Heck, even if it's another Jan, still, keep it up.

Where to start...at the beginning? Easy way out. Bible does it. Cliche. At the end? Like "Betrayal" by Pintner, work my way back? To what end? (Beginning?) In the middle? Will I become unstuck in time a la Billy Pilgrim? Is Sam Schneider destined to be a zoo display for the Trafalmadoreans?
So...why am I even starting a blog? Hmmm, the Fred man suggested it, and fathers know best.
Aims? I guess to note down various thoughts and observations.
Aspirations? Nah, I'm breathing just fine thanks.
